Big Dan's Big News April 5, 2010

WikiLeaks.org releases secret video of journalists, civilians killed in Baghdad

Will this be blacklisted in the American corporate owned media they want us to think is liberal? Did you see this on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, or FOX? Did Rush Limbaugh talk about it? Were they talking about Tiger Woods instead?

5th April 2010 10:44 EST WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff.

Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded.

The military did not reveal how the Reuters staff were killed, and stated that they did not know how the children were injured.

After demands by Reuters, the incident was investigated and the U.S. military concluded that the actions of the soldiers were in accordance with the law of armed conflict and its own "Rules of Engagement".

Consequently, WikiLeaks has released the classified Rules of Engagement for 2006, 2007 and 2008, revealing these rules before, during, and after the killings.

WikiLeaks has released both the original 38 minutes video and a shorter version with an initial analysis. Subtitles have been added to both versions from the radio transmissions.

WikiLeaks obtained this video as well as supporting documents from a number of military whistleblowers. WikiLeaks goes to great lengths to verify the authenticity of the information it receives. We have analyzed the information about this incident from a variety of source material. We have spoken to witnesses and journalists directly involved in the incident.

WikiLeaks wants to ensure that all the leaked information it receives gets the attention it deserves. In this particular case, some of the people killed were journalists that were simply doing their jobs: putting their lives at risk in order to report on war. Iraq is a very dangerous place for journalists: from 2003- 2009, 139 journalists were killed while doing their work.

When you watch this video, look at the propaganda quotes in the NYTimes and Washington Post...and then jump down to the Chomsky video which is dead-on relevant to this: the corporate owned media serves the wealthy, the military industrial complex, and corporations and they want you to think it's "liberal"...LEARN WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE MEDIA! This used to be on the news in the Cronkite days, now the news is on whistleblower sites on youtube hoping not to get shut down.

Why do Republicans hate Americans?

Republicans once again are blocking unemployment insurance for millions of Americans. But in this clip here, Republican Senator Kyl says that Republicans are FOR extending unemployment...IE: he's LYING on TV. Here: watch Republican Senator Kyl LIE on TV:

Here's your PROOF Republican Senator Kyl is LYING:

(CNN) -- Extended unemployment benefits will temporarily expire for thousands of Americans on Monday because the Senate went on its spring recess without approving a one-month deadline extension.

The extension, which had bipartisan support, would have cost about $10 billion, but a lone Republican, Sen. Tom Coburn, said "NO":

Unemployment benefits expire for thousands

Coburn Pulls The Trigger: Jobless Benefits Extension Blocked By GOP

Thanks to Tom Coburn, Unemployment Benefits Stop For Some

See how the Republicans do it? They did this last time, too: they get ONE of their guys to hold it up, then get the rest to say they're FOR it...so the whole party doesn't look bad! NONE OF THEM ARE FOR IT!!! But they get one "fall guy", so the others can say they're FOR IT! Then they send a guy (Kyl) on TV and say they're FOR it! Get it???????????????????????????????????

Flashback: last time Republican Senator Jim Bunning was the "fall guy" - blocked unemployment insurance for millions of Americans.

Republicans Bunning and Coburn took turns stopping MILLIONS of Americans from getting unemployment! But have no problem with the $2.5 BILLION we're spending in Iraq & Afghanistans PER WEEK! They are worried about paying for Americans unemployment...BUT NOT THE WARS!!! Which is ENORMOUSLY MORE MONEY!!! The GOP picked Bunning to be the fall guy last time because he's not running for reelection, anyone know why the GOP picked Coburn this time? Is he in a safe state where he's going to win anyway? Or is he not running for reelection?

Republicans Coburn and Bunning: why do you hate Americans???

Nevada Republican Sen. John Ensign is likely to be indicted for a $96,000 payment he made to the husband of the aide with whom he had an affair.

E.L. Doctorow describes the change in America during the Reagan/Bush years:

"...we have seen a national regression to the robber-baronial thinking of the nineteenth century. This amounts to nothing less than a deconstruction of America, the dismantling of enlightened social legislation that had begun to bring equity over half a century to the lives of working people, to rectify some of the terrible imbalance of racial injustice and give a fair shake to the outsiders, the underdogs, the newcomers. We have seen the ideals of environmental sanctity sacrificed to the demands of business thinking in which we have done only as much to protect our environment as industry has found convenient, as if only a few songbirds and some poor dumb animals were at stake, as if the bleeding hearts of woodsy environmentalists were the issue, and not our lungs and skins and genes, and the wholeness and health of our children and their children." --E. It’s interesting that at the same time tea partiers were in Washington the week of the vote for the healthcare bill in Congress, another group of protesters, including Sheehan, were also in Washington protesting the seventh anniversary of the start of the Iraq war. Did any of these protesters meet? Did they talk, discuss ideas or even just say hello? Do they even realize they face a common foe?
