It was to be his first appearance there since being sworn in Nov. 9 and comes on the heels of a letter sent to the panel's chairman signaling he will not ever publicly conclude that waterboarding is illegal.

· The city that popularized the fast food drive-thru has a new innovation: 24-hour medical marijuana vending machines. Patients suffering from chronic pain, loss of appetite and other ailments that marijuana is said to alleviate can get their pot with a dose of convenience at the Herbal Nutrition Center, where a large machine will dole out the drug around the clock.

· TL: Remains found off highways. Eight bags with human parts, including a head, were found scattered on I-380 and I-80.

· Catholic teachers will hold rally for union rights

· Coroner will resign school director post. Luzerne County Coroner John Corcoran will resign as a Wilkes-Barre Area school director after the state Ethics Commission in Harrisburg ruled Tuesday he could not serve in both capacities.

· Wilkes-Barre/Scranton unemployment rate rises to 5.3 percent. In what could be the early rumblings of an anticipated recession, December seasonally-adjusted unemployment in the region increased seven-tenths of a percentage point to 5.3 percent.
